In 2016\, we launched a new initiative to make our community a better place for even more of our neighbors. \nHabitat for Humanity’s “Love Your Neighborhood” initiative focuses on community development and repair through partnerships with homeowners and community groups. “Love Your Neighborhood” strengthens and uplifts the dynamic between individual pride\, community engagement and neighborhood livability by creating a safer and healthier environment. \nJOIN US ON SATURDAY\, SEPTEMBER 23 IN THE RUSSELL NEIGHBORHOOD FOR OUR NEXT “LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD.”\nTo participate in this “Love Your Neighborhood” event\, sign up here. \nHOME PRESERVATION\nThe “Love Your Neighborhood” initiative selects multiple streets in a neighborhood where low-income homeowners are invited to participate in exterior home repair projects. \nProjects can include: \n\n\n\nPorch and ramp repair\nLandscaping\nGutter repair\nFence repair\nPainting\nOther needed external repairs\n\n\n\nBEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS\nHabitat’s “Love Your Neighborhood” includes a variety of beautification efforts. These projects bring volunteers and neighbors together to focus on safety and visual improvements within the boundary area. \nProjects can include: \n\n\n\nAlley and street clean-ups\nPainting\, potting and distributing flower pots to all homes\nRe-striping crosswalks leading to community spaces and buildings\n\n\n\nHELP US SPREAD THE LOVE\nHabitat for Humanity is seeking sponsors for the 2017 “Love Your Neighborhood” initiative. For more information on how you can volunteer at a “Love Your Neighborhood” event in 2017\, contact our Volunteer Coordinator\, Allie Raque\, at 502.805.1665 or araque@louisvillehabitat.org. \n2016 “LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD” STATISTICS\n\n\n\nHabitat for Humanity hosted 3 “Love Your Neighborhood” events in 2016.\nThe 3 events took place in the Smoketown\, Shelby Park and Park Hill neighborhoods.\nOver the course of the 3 events\, 900 volunteers completed 15 exterior home repair projects on owner-occupied homes\, cleaned 25 alleys and improved 2 parks (Ballard Park and St. Louis Park) and a community garden (Shelby Park Community Garden).\nThe 15 home repair projects were sponsored by Thrivent Financial. The two other major sponsors that Habitat for Humanity partnered with was Brown-Forman and GE Appliances\, a Haier Company.

DESCRIPTION:The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights established the\nKentucky Civil Rights Hall of Fame in 2000 to\nrecognize the men and women who are and/or have been leaders in\nthe struggle for equality and justice in the Commonwealth of\nKentucky\, to raise public awareness about human rights issues\, and\nto foster an environment for discussion and education regarding\nKentucky civil rights history and ongoing challenges.\nOut call for nominations resulted in 29 individuals. All of the\nnominees will be recognized at this event. Also during this event\, we\nwill be inducting individuals who have demonstrated their\ncommitment to Kentucky’s Civil Rights Movement\, into the\nKentucky Civil Rights Hall of Fame.
