SUMMARY:Food\, Faith & Organizing-A food justice discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Joshua Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church on Tuesday evening\, February 7th\, 2017\, 5:45 PM to 7:30 PM for a discussion on: \n  \nFood\, Faith\, & Organizing \nWhat Does Your Faith Say about Food Justice? \n  \nMany families in Louisville—especially those facing limited resources—have a difficult time accessing the farm fresh food we all need to be happy and healthy. This situation is becoming increasingly dire as Krogers Corporation abandons our urban core neighborhoods. What does the Prophet Nehemiah (5) have to say about the responsibility we Louisvillians have to ensure that everyone has access to farm-fresh\, nutritious food\, regardless of zip code? What does 2 Kings 4 and the miracle of the oil have to do with the collective economics of New Roots Fresh Stop Markets? What does the Torah say about the difference between charity and justice (tzedakah)? Come down to the historic Russell Neighborhood in West Louisville to hear speakers Pastor David Snardon and New Roots Director Karyn Moskowitz and join in on a group conversation aimed at finding sustainable\, community-driven solutions. \n  \nJoshua Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church is located at 426 S 15th St\, Louisville\, KY 40203 \nLight snacks served to discuss \n  \nEveryone welcome! RSVPs are encouraged. Please call Ms. Mary Montgomery at 502-509-6770.

SUMMARY:Resilience Screening and Community Conversation
DESCRIPTION:THE CHILD MAY NOT REMEMBER\, BUT THE BODY REMEMBERS.\nResearchers have discovered a dangerous biological syndrome caused by abuse\, neglect and other adverse experiences during childhood. As the new documentary Resilience reveals\, toxic stress can trigger hormones that wreak havoc on the brains and bodies of children\, putting them at a greater risk for disease\, homelessness\, prison time\, and early death. While the broader impacts of poverty worsen the risk\, no segment of society is immune. Resilience chronicles the dawn of a movement that is determined to fight back. Trailblazers in pediatrics\, education\, and social welfare are using cutting-edge science and field-tested therapies to protect children from the insidious effects of toxic stress—and the dark legacy of a childhood that no child would choose. \nJoin us at Central High School for a free screening and panel discussion designed especially for those in social services\, law enforcement and justice arenas. \nDoors open at 5:30 PM; screening begins at 6:00 PM. To register\, click here.
