DESCRIPTION:The Muhammad Ali Childhood Home Museum\, in partnership with The Parkland Boys & Girls Club is excited to present “Poetry and Art in Motion” \nPoetry and Art in Motion is a free open mic event held at Parkland Boys and Girls Club. Poetry and Art in Motion was created to promote and raise awareness of the performing arts and their benefits in our communities\, as well as\, celebrate the legacy of the great Muhammad Ali. A collaboration between The Muhammad Ali Childhood Home Museum and The Parkland Boys and Girls Club\, we designed Poetry and Art in Motion to showcase talent within our community and simply enjoy the art. We seek to provide a safe space for artistic expression\, experimentation and development across all genres. It is open to artists of all mediums seeking to share their creative energy and unique perspective. Guests will experience an enjoyable night of spoken word/poetry\, art\, song and more. DESCRIPTION:Join The Kentucky Center’s ArtsReach program\, River City Drum Corp and the Office of Mayor Greg Fischer for Keepers of the Dream\, a Community Arts Celebration of Dr. King’s Vision.\nArtwork by Long Pham\nThe 7th annual Keepers of the Dream\, hosted by poet Brandon B Shatter Harrison\, will feature presentation of the Mayor’s Freedom Award (LMHA Chairman\, Manfred Reid\, will be receiving this honorable award)\, ArtsReach Living the Vision Awards\, Westerfield Tolbert’s recitation of Dr. Martin Luther King\, JR.’s speech\, along with dance\, music\, and spoken word. The Freedom Award\, first presented in 1987\, recognizes citizens that have dedicated their lives to promoting justice\, peace\, freedom\, non-violence\, racial equality and civic activism. \nPerformances include ArtsReach Dance and Violin Studios from Chestnut Street YMCA\, Shawnee Arts and Cultural Center\, WESTEC and West End School. Other featured artists are Natya Kendra Dance Academy\, Pennies & Roses\, Made New\, poet Alexis Meza\, liturgical dancers Saved By Grace\, and the River City Drum Corp Drum Line. \nIn addition to the performance and awards ceremony\, the lobby will be busting with activity prior to the event pre-show entertainment by Louisville Leopard Percussionists and 13 exhibitors from local organizations. DESCRIPTION:In an effort to enhance relationships between the police and the community\, Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) Chief Steve Conrad began walking neighborhoods throughout Louisville Metro to provide opportunities for residents to connect with him one on one. The weekly “Chief’s Walks” have been a great opportunity for residents to meet the Chief and other LMPD officers in a relaxed\, peaceful atmosphere. The walks have also been great opportunities for neighbors to get out and meet other neighbors!
