As part of the Russell/Beecher Terrace Choice Neighborhoods Implementation grant, Louisville Metro Housing Authority (LMHA) and the Louisville Metro Government will be recreating or enhancing significant recreational amenities on and near Beecher Terrace. These include:
- Replacing Old Walnut Street Park;
- Preserving the historic Baxter Community Center building;
- Improving Baxter Square Park; and
- Providing new recreational activities
Since we were unable to hold in-person meetings because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the planning team conducted a survey, and a series of virtual focus group meetings and design workshops in Fall 2020 to help better understand what recreational uses members of the community would like to see in the future. The planning team has created preliminary designs for two distinct visions for recreational amenities at Beecher Terrace based on input and feedback received from residents and stakeholders during the recent focus groups and design workshops, and the earlier survey.
